TWO NEW MOBILE X-RAY CONTROL SYSTEMS WERE LAUNCHED ON THE LITHUANIAN - RUSSIAN BORDER
During the first month more than 1000 vehicles were checked, a few kilos of drugs were seized, illegally transported fuel and 356734 packs of contraband tobacco products were found.
According to officials working with the systems, the new x-ray control equipment is much more reliable and more advanced technology, therefore it enables to control vehicles in more effective way.
The new mobile x-ray control equipment was financed within the project “Improvement of accessibility of the state border between the Republic of Lithuania and the Russian Federation by increasing throughput capacity of border control points Panemunė and Kybartai“ (No. ILPR.01.02.00-72-174/10).
The new mobile x-ray control systems can check about 20 trucks per hour. High quality scanned images and powerful software will help officials to detect facts of contraband, to find explosive materials, drugs and other prohibited materials without opening a container or other capacities for goods transportation.
Mobile x-ray control systems are working on two modes: the vehicle, which is being checked, is moving through the system; or the system is moving itself along a stationary vehicle. Radiation Safety Center of the Republic of Lithuania confirmed that the mobile x-ray control systems meet the requirements and gave the permission to use them.
