Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013 BW


The competition for a Year’s award organised by the Association of Public Libraries of Municipalities of Lithuania has ended in April. The aim of this competition is to promote public libraries and their branches to work creative and innovative, to acknowledge their best achievements. In total 49 applications were submitted and jury has selected the best applications and presented them for award. 4 public libraries and 5 branches of public libraries were awarded.

“Friendship” branch of Marijampolė Petras Kriaučiūnas Public Library received award of Unconventional library in the category of branches of public libraries for innovative approach and use of IT technologies, development of unconventional services and tune with traditional library services. This library became family friendly and friendly for any user after the implementation of the project “Cooperation in building up a library for family” (No. ILPR.02.02.00-72-167/10-00) of Lithuania-Poland-Russia ENPI Cross-border Cooperation Programme 2007-2013. New services were created, environment became comfortable and functional, new technologies were installed during the project.
The entire space of the reconstructed and modernised “Draugyste” branch was organised into five functional zones for different activities: mediatek, play corner, space for technologies, meetings and educational activities. Premises are adjusted for people using wheelchairs, of different ages, organisation of events. The project partner Chernyakhovsk municipal institution “Centralized Library System” (Kaliningrad region, Russia) renovated reading room where functional zones were also set up. Both partners developed one educational programme and organised introductory training course, exhibitions, club of reading families, etc. The final event in Marijampolė (Lithuania) summarised and highlighted project’s achievements.
